Bundesliga week 20: Bayern win again, Schalke continue meltdown

Lars Kaletta

Alright, time to take a look at what happened in Germany today. With the big match -- Bayer Leverkusen vs. Borussia Dortmund -- not happening until Sunday, there wasn't much exciting going on in the Bundesliga. Except for at Schalke, where the hosts continued their hilarious meltdown in rather emphatic fashion.

Let's start there. Remember that Schalke were playing Greuther Furth, who had a grand total of one league win going into this weekend. They were playing Greuther Furth at home. They also took a 1-0 lead after the break when Michel Bastos scored. And then they lost thanks to a last-minute header from Nikola Djurdjic. Amusing.

The other two away wins were less surprising. Frankfurt dispatched HSV thanks to an early brace from debutant Srdjan Lakic, and Bayern smushed Mainz 3-0 because they're Bayern Munich and that's what happens when you play Bayern Munich. I'm of the opinion that Pep Guardiola took that job because he could just stay in New York for a few more years and nobody would notice.

Fortuna Dusseldorf 3-1 VFB Stuttgart
Mainz 0-3 Bayern Munich
Schalke 04 1-2 SpVgg Greuther Furth
TSG Hoffenheim 2-1 SC Freiburg
Wolfsburg 1-1 FC Augsburg
Hamburg SV 0-2 Eintracht Frankfurt
