Bulgaria entered World Cup qualifying as fourth favorites at best, if not fifth favorites, in Group B. The Czech Republic and Denmark both qualified for the last edition of the European Championships, while Armenia have been dangerous in recent qualifying cycles. Surprisingly, they've claimed second place behind Italy in the group, and they solidified their standing on Tuesday with a 1-1 draw in Denmark.
The Danes were well on top in the first half, though all of their best scoring chances came on set pieces. Bulgaria had to clear off the line on a couple of occasions, while Nikolay Mihaylov was great in net, helping Bulgaria get to halftime with the score locked at 0-0.
Denmark continued to attack to start the second half, but gave up a goal completely against the run of play. On a counter, Aleksandar Tonev set up Stanislav Manolev for a shock goal, giving the visitors a lead after 51 minutes.
In the 63rd minute, Iliya Milanov took down Andreas Cornelius in the penalty area, and Daniel Agger converted the ensuing spot kick. However, unfortunately for Denmark, that was the only goal they could muster on the night. They have a game in hand against Bulgaria, but, along with the Czech Republic, trail them by four points.
