17th placed Genoa sit on 26 points and trail 16th placed Atalanta by seven points. Had it not been for their six point penalty, then Siena would be out of the relegation places for the first time this season. The Tuscans currently have a four point cushion over Palermo and Pescara who sit joint bottom and will both naturally be hoping this game ends in a draw.
The away side have the more favourable form coming into this game. They offset two losses to Juventus and Atalanta with a 2-1 victory at Palermo and a goalless draw against Cagliari before the international break, while Genoa have lost three games on the spin.
It's worth noting that Siena won this fixture 4-1 last season and also edged the Grifone 1-0 back in November. Curiously, that narrow victory handed Genoa a fourth consecutive defeat and Giuseppe Iachini will be hoping to repeat the trick on Saturday afternoon.
Key quartet Sebastien Frey, Andreas Granqvist, Francelino Matuzalem and Marco Borriello are all expected to shake off knocks and start for the home side. Daniele Portanova and Luca Antonelli are both poised to face their former Robur teammates.
