Fiorentina vs. Chievo Verona, Final Score 2-1: Miracle in Florence as Larrondo nets winner

It was a closer game than they may have been expecting, but after 78 minutes of toil against a determined Chievo, Fiorentina finally found a winner, with Marcelo Larrondo opening his viola account.

Fiorentina stay sixth with their victory, as this weekend's games continue to change very little at the top of the table. The defeat sees Chievo Verona plummet to 16th, having not won since January.

When captain Manuel Pasqual gave the viola the lead through a stunning curling free-kick after four minutes, it looked like a rout was on the cards. But, the Flying Donkeys fought back well, and should've equalised within ten minutes, though Cyril Théréau managed to miss a free header from point-blank range.

They matched Fiorentina comfortably in the opening minutes, though were fortunate to not be two down when Borja Valero prodded an Adem Ljajić squared ball wide from six yards, before the Spaniard turned provider for Stevan Jovetić, who headed his cross wide from the penalty spot.

Fiorentina continued to create great chances, and when Nenad Tomović's header was well saved by Christian Puggioni before Pasqual managed to miss the open goal on a rebound, they were punished for their profligacy. First half substitute Isaac Cofie stroked in an Enrico Guarna low cross inside the final ten minutes of the opening 45.

Chievo had the first great chance of the second, though Alberto Paloschi fired over the bar from close range. After a slow restart, the viola soon picked up the pace, and came to dominate the game. Borja Valero curled a low shot wide from inside the area, before Luca Toni headed onto the post and Marcelo Larrondo missed the rebound from four yards.

Eventually they were rewarded for their domination, with just over ten minutes left. The winning goal came from the unlikeliest of sources, as Larrondo -- a striker signed from Siena in January -- proved he can actually hit the target, heading in a Pasqual cross superbly.
