After yesterday's Clasico, La Liga still had plenty to offer today as Atletico Madrid blew a chance to close within nine points of Barcelona. Mallorca got a big win, while Espanyol and Valladolid bored everyone to death. Real Sociedad and Real Betis played to a wild 3-3 draw.
Tomer Hemed's 94th minute goal earned Mallorca a massive victory over Granada.
Granada took an early lead in the 9th minute when Juan Ortiz got past Luna before sending a cross into the box to an unmarked Nolito who beat Dudu Aouate with a header. Mallorca answered back just four minutes later when Alfaro finished off Giovani dos Santos low cross from a couple yards out.
Dos Santos was involved in the winning goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time. His cross was headed on goal by Hemed rose to head the ball on goal. Granada goalkeeper Toño was able to get a hand on the ball but couldn't prevent it from crossing the line.
While the win isn't enough to move Mallorca out of the drop zone but it does boost them within four points of safety.
Espanyol 0-0 Real Valladolid
Espnayol and Valladolid played to a rather drab scoreless draw with the two teams combining for a single shot on target. Both teams remain in the mid-table with the result.
Atletico Madrid 0-0 Malaga
Atletico failed to take advantage of Barcelona's loss yesterday and were unable to find a goal that would have moved then within nine points of first place. For Malaga, the point keeps them just ahead of Valencia for fourth place.
Both teams had chances in the first half but they were thwarted by the opposing goalkeepers. Atletico's Thibaut Courtois stopped a header from Lucas Piazon in the 10th minute, while Malaga's Willy Caballero stopped a 25-yard shot by Arda Turan. Atletico were unable to jump on the rebound after Caballero fumbled the save.
One word can describe this match between Sociedad and Bets...bonkers. Dorlan Pabon had a brace as Real Betis held off a comeback from Sociedad to hold on for a 3-3 draw.
Betis took the lead in the 29th minute thanks to Jorge Molina but the real fireworks didn't start until the second half. In the 49th minute Pabon doubled Betis' advantage finishing off a through ball from Beñat with a close range tap-in.
Then Sociedad roared back with two goals in five minutes from Iñigo Martínez and Carlos Vela to pull Soceidad even at 2-2. Xabi Prieto scored on a penalty in the 62nd minute and it looked as it Betis was going to blow all the points after having a two-goal advantage.
Pabon came to the rescue four minutes after penalty, tying the game and earning a deserved point for Betis.
