Atletico Madrid vs. Granada: Final score 5-0, Los Colchoneros dominate Granada

Radamel Falcao scored twice as Atletico Madrid flexed their muscles a bit in a 5-0 defeat of Granada.

Atletico Madrid pulled even with Real Madrid (pending Madrid's match later this afteroon) for second place with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Granada. The incomparable Radamel Falcao led the way scoring twice for Los Colchoneros.

Atletico wasted no time getting ahead of Granada, scoring in the 5th minute thanks to a lovely header from Diego Costa into the bottom corner past the on-rushing goalkeeper Roberto. Koke made the initial cross and Roberto couldn't close down on Costa who was parked in the center of the Granada box.

It appeared Atletico had doubled their advantage in the 15th minute when a pass meant for Radamel Falcao was deflected into the path of Raul Garcia who directed off Roberto's foot and into the net. Granada were saved for the moment however by the linesman's flag going up, having judged García to have been in an offside position.

The second goal really was inevitable though and Atletico got it in the 20th minute on one of the better counter attacks you're ever likely to see executed. The beauty was in the simplicity as all three players involved seemingly knew exactly where the other would be and needed the ball to be placed. Diego Costa ran on to a perfectly placed pass from Cristian Rodriguez and sent a cross to Falcao who was mirroring his run on the left side. Falcao did just what you'd expect, blasting the ball past a helpless Roberto, making it 2-0 to the home side.

Falcao wasted little time expanding Atletico's lead at the start of the second half. Granada's Juanma Ortiz brought down Costa on the left wing, setting up a set piece chance for Koke. His inswinger free kick took a slight deflection off Yacine Brahimi and fell right into Falcao's path for the tap-in from close range.

Roberto made a tremendous save in the 55th minute, denying Costa with a diving effort but leaving a rebound that was García could only hit off the post. It was the second close call for the midfielder but his goal would come.

In the 63rd minute Falcao earned yet another dangerous set piece chance for Koke who once again did not disappoint. Poor marking by Granada allowed García to attack the near post basically unmarked and get his foot on Koke's free kick, sending past Roberto and making it 4-0.

Filipe Luís joined in the on fun in the 70th minute, making a simple overlapping run past Adrián and receiving a pass from the striker before sending the ball past Roberto to make it 5-0.

For Granada they remain a point clear of the relegation zone but could drap into the bottom three if Real Zaragoza get a victory over Barcelona.
