Parma vs Lazio, Final Score 0-0: Goal shy sides play out scoreless draw

Paolo Bruno

Two sides struggling for goals played out a 0-0 draw at the Ennio Tardini, but Parma and Lazio both saw late strikes ruled out.

Neither side came into the game in particular good form, with Lazio having lost their last five games away from the Stadio Olimpico.

Amauri wasted a free header inside the first two minutes. Jonathan Biabiany picked out the frontman just yards from goal and he sent his effort straight at Federico Marchetti, who flapped it to safety.

After that early promise, the first half petered out. Miroslav Klose ballooned over Lazio's best effort on 25 minutes, after the ball was played in behind the German and he pivoted to make a weak connection. Following a goalmouth scramble, Gabriele Paletta failed to steer the ball in seven minutes before the break.

The second half began as a mirror image of the first. Just 45 seconds after the restart, Amauri was handed another chance, but he prodded a volley wide of the post.

Lazio enjoyed a spell of possession and Ederson curled an effort just wide of the post from the edge of the area, with Antonio Mirante rooted to the spot.

Ex-Parma loanee Sergio Floccari came on to polite applause from the Tardini crowd to spice up the Lazio attack, but it was Parma who begun to look the more dangerous.

Marco Parolo had an effort blocked in the box just as he was about to pull the trigger, before Jaime Valdes saw a grasscutter go wide of the post. Lazio finally came out of their shell during the last quarter and pressed for a winner.

Mirante got crucial fingertips on a ball that was destined for Floccari, before Libor Kozak came on and instantly wasted a one-on-one, firing straight at Mirante's legs from a tight angle. The Czech striker had another sight at goal, but just missed sliding in to connect with Antonio Candreva's low cross.

Miscommunication robbed the visitors of a certain goal when Stefan Radu ran in ahead of Kozak to head over from a promising position in the box. The Romanian defender pulled up with a hamstring injury and had to be substituted. Kozak used his body as a cushion, laying off for Floccari to shoot wide as the minutes ticked away.

In stoppage time, Amauri headed weakly into Marchetti's arms and Giuseppe Biava was sent off for a second bookable offence. Marchetti spilt a Sotiris Ninis free-kick with Paletta and Ishak Belfodil combining to slot the ball in from a clear offside position. Kozak then turned in a Candreva free-kick with the last kick of the game, but his effort was also ruled out by the fourth official.
