Manchester United vs. Manchester City: Lineups

Alex Livesey

Wayne Rooney returns for Manchester United but there is no place for Sergio Agüero in the Manchester City starting eleven.

Sir Alex Ferguson has unsurprisingly slotted Wayne Rooney straight back into his starting eleven after he sat out the games against Sunderland and Chelsea with a groin strain, while neither Nemanja Vidić or Jonny Evans have made the starting side after their recent knocks. Ashley Young starts over Nani, while Danny Welbeck also plays. Ryan Giggs partners Michael Carrick in the centre of midfield.

As for Manchester City, the main surprise is the absence of Sergio Agüero, with James Milner included over the Argentine. Ex-United striker Carlos Tévez will spearhead the attack in front of David Silva, flanked by Milner and Samir Nasri. Matija Nastasić takes his place alongside Vincent Kompany at the centre of defence after recovering from a foot injury. Edin Džeko doesn't make the starting eleven.

Manchester United (4-2-3-1): David De Gea; Patrice Evra, Phil Jones, Rio Ferdinand, Rafael Da Silva; Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick; Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck; Robin van Persie

Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Joe Hart; Gael Clichy, Matija Nastasić, Vincent Kompany Pablo Zabaleta; Yaya Touré, Gareth Barry; Samir Nasri, David Silva, James Milner; Carlos Tévez
