Shock! Horror! Paris Saint-Germain have secured their first league title since 1994. It only cost several hundred million euros, too! They needed a victory against Lyon at the Stade de Gerland to clinch the championship with two matches to play, and although the match could have gone either way, it was Jeremy Menez who claimed the game's only goal:
PSG are now at 77 points, seven higher than second-place Marseille (who at least have the Champions League to look forward to), and cannot be caught over the last two games.
The league, of course, is the least of PSG's ambitions. They've got so much more resources than the rest of the division that the only glory that counts for much is in Europe, but considering that they failed to translate their cash reserves into a championship last season, not screwing it up this year has got to be considered a positive, as does the fact that Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Beckham get to add more medals to their treasure hoards.
Expect them to win by more next year, unless this Monaco nonsense turns out to be a real thing.
