David Beckham has announced his retirement from football, bringing a long and storied career to an end at the age of 38.

David Beckham has announced his retirement from football and confirmed that his stint at Paris Saint-Germain will be his last as a player.

The former Manchester United, LA Galaxy and Real Madrid midfielder, who earned 115 caps for England, joins his former mentor Sir Alex Ferguson in retiring this summer.

Although born in Leytonstone, east London, Beckham began his career at the Manchester United youth academy, and made 265 appearances for the Red Devils, most famously as a part of the legendary treble-winning side of 1999. After a high-profile fallout with Ferguson, he moved on to Real Madrid, where he made 116 appearances before moving to the MLS to join LA Galaxy.

Loans to AC Milan followed, before a brief stint at Paris Saint-Germain this season brought Beckham's illustrious career to a close, bowing out on a high as he helped the club to a Ligue 1 title at the age of 38.
