Tottenham Hotspur's Gareth Bale swept both PFA awards this year, coming away with the Footballer of the Year and the Young Footballer of the Year titles, and he continues his merry blitz through the awards season by picking up the Football Writers Association Footballer of the Year. Footballer.
Bale, who's been terrorising defences all season and has been instrumental in keeping Spurs within touching distance in the race for a top four spot, saw of heavy competition from Manchester United's Robin van Persie, coming in with 53 percent of the votes. Juan Mata finished third, presumably because Luis Suarez is an evil man.
So what's next from what appears to be Britain's favourite footballer? Well, he has a Champions League spot to help secure, but beyond that, it's difficult to say. Although Andre Villas-Boas has come out and denied that he's likely to go anywhere this summer, bigger fish than Tottenham are circling and clamouring for his signature. If Spurs miss out on the top four, it's not difficult to see him heading, oh, Real Madrid's way.
