After Aston Villa's 6-1 hammering of Sunderland, Wigan Athletic are five points adrift of safety going into the weekend -- albeit still with a game in hand. Nevertheless, their position is looking increasingly precarious, and their late end-of-season surge is yet to materialise. They are winless in their last four games.
They travel to the Hawthorns to play West Bromwich Albion here, with the Baggies back on form after winning 3-0 against Southampton in their last match. They are sitting comfortably in eighth place, and will hope to continue the form which has seen them beaten only five times at home this season.
However, they have a double blow in that Chris Brunt and Goran Popov are both out injured, while Marc-Antoine Fortuné is suspended after being sent off in the red card-fest which made up last weekend's game against Southampton. James Morrison is a slight doubt with a groin injury, though should be available.
Wigan's Maynor Figueroa and Iván Ramis have been ruled out for the rest of the season, while this game will come too early for an Antolín Alcaraz return. The same will probably be the case for Ben Watson, who is nearing a comeback from his broken leg.
