Boca Juniors' Torneo Final campaign hasn't gone according to the script. Carlos Bianchi -- a coach who won the Copa Libertadores three times with Boca -- and on-field legend Juan Román Riquelme returned to fire the team to the top of the table. About that...
After 11 games they've picked up only nine points, and are sitting only a couple of places above the bottom spot. The only real saving grace has been their Libertadores campaign, with Boca currently sitting on a 1-0 aggregate lead against Brazilian side Corinthians in the round of 16.
The way relegation is calculated in Argentina means Boca needn't worry about going down, though they will have to restore some of their pride against fierce Superclásico rivals River Plate here. The two most successful teams in Argentine football history will face off once more at La Bombonera.
River are currently sitting in third place, four points behind Inicial leaders Newell's Old Boys, so, on paper, will be expecting three points. But with derby games so often unpredictable, anything could happen.
River will have captain Leonardo Ponzio back from a hamstring injury, while Ariel Rojas should be available after a slight hamstring problem. Martín Aguirre is out, while Adalberto Román, Ramiro Funes Mori and Germán Pezzella are all in doubt.
As for Boca, they are expected to miss their playmaking talisman Juan Román Riquelme though injury, while Ribair Rodríguez and Franco Sosa are likely to be out as they also recover from their tears. Goalkeeper Agustín Orión has only been doing light training, rendering him doubtful.
