Napoli vs Inter Milan, Preview: European issues still to be decided in Naples

Valerio Pennicino

The Scudetto may have gone, but there is still plenty to play for in the evening game at the San Paolo.

Napoli will look to consolidate second place ahead of AC Milan, while injury ravaged Inter still have faint hopes of securing a place in next season's Europa League.

Walter Mazzarri's side are four points clear of the Rossoneri, so know that a victory will effectively seal the runners-up position with just three games left to play. Meanwhile, Andrea Stramaccioni will be hopeful of a victory that will propel his side above Lazio into 7th place ahead of their meeting with the Biancocelesti in midweek. They trail AS Roma by five points, with the Giallorossi currently occupying the final Europa League place.

Hugo Campagnaro has succumbed to a calf problem and will be replaced by either Alessando Gamberini or Rolando at the heart of the defence. Aside from that, Napoli have the luxury of choosing from a full strength squad.

The Nerazzurri's injury crisis has been well documented this season. Club captain Javier Zanetti had successful surgery to repair his Achilles tendon in midweek and should return in six months. However, both Fredy Guarin and Esteban Cambiasso are out of the treatment room and back in the squad, while Antonio Cassano has resumed training and could be on the substitutes bench.

Guarin netted one of the goals in a 2-1 win for Inter back in Week 16, but Napoli have won four of the last six meetings at the San Paolo 1-0 and drew the other two. Edinson Cavani is out on his own as the Serie A top scorer and will be confident of adding to his 23 goal tally.
