Freiburg made sure they were going to stay in the race for a European place until the end of the season with 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Augsburg on Sunday.
Augsburg came out strong on the attack. Sasha Mölders was through on goal, but he put his shot right at Oliver Baumann. Then, Oliver Sorg was able to stop Dong-Won Ji from putting another shot at Baumann with an excellent stop.
Cedric Makiadi bagged the first goal of the game at the half hour mark. Alexander Manninger blocked a shot from Jonathan Schmid, but Makiadi was on hand to tuck in the rebound to make it 1-0.
Schmid finally got his goal in the 60th minute. He played a quick one-two with Max Kruse before slotting past Manninger to make it 2-0.
Freiburg are now in sixth place on 48 points. They're four points clear of seventh place Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hamburg. The latter plays later today. Augsburg remain in 16th place on 30 points. They're sitting in the relegation playoff place and are two points ahead of 17th place Hoffenheim in the direct relegation place. They're also level on points with the club just out of the relegation zone, Fortuna Düsseldorf. The last two weeks are going to be incredible.
