Boston Breakers vs Western New York Flash: Preview

Boston will look to move on from their disappointing result in week 8 against Sky Blue when they face The Flash on Wednesday. The Breakers will need to utilize their strongest players in order to defeat the Flash's defensive brick wall which includes a perceptive Brittany Taylor who has already racked up two assists.

Both clubs are scheduled to play two games this week. Boston will host the Flash on Wednesday before they travel to Chicago on Sunday. The Flash will meet Sky Blue for the third time this season on Saturday.

Boston conceded their biggest loss of the season, 5-1 to Sky Blue in week 8. This outcome was partially a result of the national team players absence. Boston could not form stable offensive attacks as Sky Blue managed to break up their formations in the midfield. The assist queen, Lianne Sanderson, nearly added to her six assists late into the second half against Sky Blue. Her shot deflected off the crossbar but Brittany Cameron couldn't maintain possession and the ball fell to the feet of Adriana Leon. It was her first goal of the season and first 90 minute stretch for the team. In prior games she is subbed late into the second half so it is unlikely that she would start on Wednesday. Sydney Leroux and Heather O'Reilly should start up front for Boston.

A 2-1 score appears to be a common theme among the Flash's previous three consecutive home wins. To no surprise, Abby Wambach has scored in each of these games including two game winning goals against FC Kansas City and Sky Blue FC. Wambach will look to debunk Sophie Schmidt from the top leading scorer spot in the tournament this week as she will have opportunities during both games to add to her four goals.

During the first three weeks of the season the Flash failed to record a victory in part due to their unorganized defense. Following their biggest defeat in week 3 against Boston, the back line formed a brick wall against the opposition. Brittany Taylor was in command alongside an aggressive Estelle Johnson, together they have contributed to the Flash's three wins this season. Taylor has assisted two goals and continues to find space to feed passes.

Taylor's duties to find quality players in the midfield is easier now that Carli Lloyd has joined. Lloyd adds to the growing number of players on the team with accurate striking abilities. Wambach, McCall Zerboni, Adriana and Samantha Kerr are scoring threats but Lloyd's energy in the midfield is a challenge to control and as a result she can win free kicks for the team.
