Borussia Dortmund will be without the services of Lukasz Piszczek for the first few months of the season after the defender underwent hip surgery on Thursday. This particular surgery for Piszczek has been planned for a while now, and the defender will look to be back before missing too much time.
Piszczek, 28, continued playing through the pain his hip was causing him and was superb until the very final game of the season. In the Champions League Final against Bayern Munich, Piszczek did well to keep Franck Ribery in check for the majority of the match.
With Felipe Santana transferring to Schalke already this summer, BVB moved to bring in Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Werder Bremen as a defensive replacement. Sokratis may prefer centerback, but he'll likely be starting the season as Piszczek's fill-in at right back.
