UEFA World Cup Qualifying wrap: England and Belgium profit on a bad night for the Balkans

Claudio Villa

A bad night for Montenegro, Serbia, and Croatia saw Belgium and England among the teams to profit in the latest round of fixtures in the UEFA World Cup Qualifying.

Armenia 0-1 Malta

In a largely meaningless game, Malta nonetheless managed a very impressive win in Armenia, holding out after Michael Mifsud's early goal.

Azerbaijan 1-1 Luxembourg

A fight between two very small nations ended all square in a match that was of little importance to anyone else.

Finland 1-0 Belarus

Finland earned another fairly impressive but ultimately futile victory, beating Belarus with a solitary goal from Hamaleinen.

Latvia 0-5 Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina ran riot at Latvia, putting five goals past the hosts with Senad Lulic, Vedad Ibisevic, Edin Dzeko, Haris Medunjanin and Miralem Pjanic all on the scoresheet.

Liechtenstein 1-1 Slovakia

A hugely impressive result for the absurdly-tiny Liechtenstein against the only slightly-tiny Slovakia, who got an equaliser through Jan Durica after the hosts took a shock lead.

Croatia 0-1 Scotland

The Scots dealt Croatia's qualification campaign a blow after Robert Snodgrass' goal gave them a remarkable victory at Maksimir. Victory for Belgium over Serbia only made it an even worse night for Croatia.

Moldova 1-1 Poland

The latest in a series of disappointing results for the Poles, Sidorenko's goal cancelling out Jakub Blaszczykowski's early opener.

Republic of Ireland 3-0 Faroe Islands

A record-breaking Robbie Keane hat-trick kept Ireland in the hunt for a qualification place as they cruised past the lowest-ranked team in the group.

Albania 1-1 Norway

Another underachieving display from Norway, who were bailed out by a late Tom Hogli equaliser to spare their blushes against Albania.

Iceland 2-4 Slovenia

A largely pointless thriller as Slovenia took the lead early only to find themselves 2-1 down, before Valter Birsa and Rene Krhin sealed an away win.

Lithuania 0-1 Greece

Christodoulopoulos' 20th-minute goal proved enough for Greece to snatch an away win at Lithuania in what has been a disappointing campaign.
