Luis Montes hits a rocket that NASA would be jealous of for Mexico goal

USA TODAY Sports

Luis Montes solved Mexico's goal scoring problem.

Mexico's goal scoring problem could apparently be boiled down to two things:

  1. Not enough Luis Montes.
  2. Not enough rocket-powered shots.
On Sunday, Montes, in just his third appearance for Mexico, packed his foot with gun powder, lit it and unleashed holy hell on a poor soccer ball. Mexico's goal scoring problem? Solved.

Montes' goal proved to be the match-winner as El Tri took down Montinique 3-1 to book their spot in the Gold Cup quarterfinals. Maybe if Montes and his rocket powered foot made his way to Mexico City come World Cup qualifying Mexico might find the net at Estadio Azteca*.

* Gun powder is not allowed on the soccer pitch, but then again, Montes isn't really that good so let's take liberties where we can and celebrate a rocket that NASA would be jealous of.
