La Liga announces 2013/14 schedule details

La Liga released details today about their upcoming season schedule, including a compaction of the schedule to ensure the season ends early to prepare for next summer's World Cup.

The Liga de Futbol Profesional announced their schedule for the upcoming season today, giving us all a chance to gaze into the future and think about the potential interesting matches ahead of us.

Or we can just look for El Clásicos.

The season will kick-off on August 17th and close on May 18th, a couple weeks earlier than normal due to the World Cup next summer. How nice of them to give their players a chance to catch their breath ahead of FIFA's bombastic summer spectacular in Brazil.

Opening weekend will feature defending league champions Barcelona at home against Levante, while new Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will welcome Real Betis to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Newly promoted Elche travels t face Rayo Vallecano, while the other two newcomers, Almeria and Villarreal, will face one another.

For those of you that only tune in to Spanish football for the Clasicos, Madrid host Barcelona October 27th, with the return match scheduled for March 23rd, 2014.The Madrid derby will be played on Spetember 29th and March 2nd, with Real Madrid hosting the first match.

Malaga's new head coach Bernd Schuster -- Manuel Pellegrini's departed to Manchester City -- face a daunting gauntlet run to open the season with games against Valencia, Barcelona, Sevilla and Real Sociedad.

Weeks 6, 11 and 30 will feature midweek games, while the Copa del Rey Final will be held on a as yet undecided weekend in April.

This year's Supercopa de Espana between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will take place in late August with the first leg on August 21 at Atleti and second leg on August 28 at Barca.
