The club released a brief statement Wednesday on their website but did not make any official estimates about how much time Alonso will miss.

The Real Madrid player Xabi Alonso has suffered today a fracture of the fifth metatarsal of his right foot as radiological tests have revealed to which has been submitted by Real Madrid Sanitas medical services.

Several Spanish media outlets are claiming Xabi will miss three months with the injury.

If that ends up being the case, the 31-year-old will miss Spain's three remaining World Cup qualifiers, most of Madrid's Champions League group stage matches, and the first La Liga encounter against Barcelona on October 26th.

Madrid's new signing, 21-year-old Casemiro, will likely get a chance to play more minutes with Alonso' extended absence.
