Lionel Messi injury: Barcelona star subbed out of Supercopa de España with left thigh problem

Gonzalo Arroyo Moreno

There's no word yet on the severity of the injury to Lionel Messi, but Barcelona should have more information on Thursday.

Lionel Messi has been substituted at halftime of the first leg of the Supercopa de España, with Cesc Fabregas replacing him. FC Barcelona says that the star forward has a left thigh injury, but they are currently unaware of the severity. They are currently calling it a "left thigh contusion."

Provided there is not so much swelling in his thigh that an MRI is not possible, he should have a scan to determine the severity of his injury on Thursday.

Messi had to miss a good chunk of action last spring due to a recurring hamstring injury and was also held out of some Argentinian national team matches. The team did not specify which muscle Messi injured in his upper leg, so this may or may not be an aggravation of the same injury that he had previously.
