MLS 2013, Week 26 preview and fixtures: A spectacle in Seattle

Clint Dempsey will play a match in front of a few thousand people representing two cities that don't like each other much. It's a big deal.

I hear there's a pretty good match going on in Seattle this weekend. Wait, not a match, a spectacle. But there will be a match too and it should be pretty good. If you look through the fog, you just might see it.

Chicago Fire vs. Sporting Kansas City

Friday, 8:30 p.m. ET - NBCSN

The Fire's blog is as silly as their team, but infinitely more entertaining.

Pick: Kansas City, 2-0.

D.C. United vs. Toronto FC

Saturday, 7 p.m. ET - MLS Live

If RFK Stadium finally crumbles then they don't have to play this match, right? Please?

Pick: Ugh.

Montreal Impact vs. Houston Dynamo

Saturday, 7 p.m. ET - MLS Live

I know neither what an Impact nor a Dynamo is.

Pick: Draw, 1-1.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. LA Galaxy

Saturday, 9 p.m. ET - MLS Live

The Galaxy can play the momentum card all they want once they hold a late lead on the road.

Pick: Draw, 1-1.

FC Dallas vs. San Jose Earthquakes

Saturday, 9 p.m. ET - MLS Live

The Quakes have the worst away goal difference in the West. Yes, worse than Chivas.

Pick: Dallas, 2-1.

Real Salt Lake vs. Columbus Crew

Saturday, 9:30 p.m. ET - MLS Live

Midweek lesson: RSL are halfway decent without Alvaro Saborio, Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando.

Pick: Salt Lake, 2-0.

Chivas USA vs. New York Red Bulls

Sunday, 5 p.m. ET - UniMas

Maybe if the Red Bulls play with nine men Chivas will only lose by one.

Pick: New York, 3-1.

New England Revolution vs. Philadelphia Union

Sunday, 7:30 p.m. ET - MLS Live

Boston had the tea party and likes to throw their uber-Americaness around (seriously, the Revs?), but Philadelphia was the birthplace of this country. Respect.

Pick: Draw, 2-2.

Seattle Sounders vs. Portland Timbers

Sunday, 10 p.m. ET - ESPN2

Clint Dempsey! Sell out crowd! Rivalry! National TV!

There are a lot of storylines about this match and ESPN will surely remind you of every single one of them, but how about this one: the quality of play in MLS is so much better than it has ever been and these teams will show it to you. The other stuff is great (it really is), but MLS needs to sell an on-field product and it's starting to develop one that, frankly, is pretty easy to sell.
