Seattle Sounders vs. Portland Timbers: Lineups

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Clint Dempsey makes his first home start for the Sounders, while the Timbers appear to have selected a very attacking lineup.

As expected, Clint Dempsey is in the starting lineup for the Seattle Sounders and will make his first start at home against the Portland Timbers on Sunday. The Timbers are without their two first choice starting central midfielders and have been forced to improvise. Rodney Wallace appears to be starting in the center of midfield, where he's made some sporadic appearances. Normally, Wallace plays as a winger. He'll be partnered by veteran Jack Jewsbury. With Wallace dropping into midfield, Kalif Alhassan will start out wide.

Sounders lineup (4-4-1-1): Michael Gspurning; Leo Gonzalez, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Zach Scott, DeAndre Yedlin; Lamar Neagle, Shalrie Joseph, Osvaldo Alonso, Brad Evans; Clint Dempsey; Obafemi Martins

Timbers lineup (4-2-3-1): Donovan RickettsAlvas Powell, Pa Modou KahAndrew Jean-Baptiste, Michael Harrington; Jack Jewsbury, Rodney Wallace; Kalif Alhassan, Diego Valeri, Darlington Nagbe; Eddie Johnson
