Cardiff City vs. Everton: Final score 0-0, Toffees can't convert possession into goals

Jan Kruger

Roberto Martinez's Everton continue to play nice football, but fail to get results.

A draw away to Cardiff isn't exactly a poor result for Everton, but their fans will be wondering when their team is going to finally put it all together after yet another draw. The Toffees now have three points from three games after their 0-0 stalemate on Saturday.

The game got off to a chippy start, with Craig Bellamy up to his regular antics. He delivered an elbow to the face of Leighton Baines in the 11th minute, but the referee didn't spot it, and he wasn't booked.

Everton were the more assertive attacking side in the first half, but failed to make the most of their chances. Kevin Mirallas had a couple of opportunities to score with his head inside the first half-hour, but managed to botch both of them, with his miss in the 29th minute being the worse of the two.

Baines appeared to draw a penalty in the 42nd minute when he was clipped by Gary Medel in the box, but the referee saw nothing and pointed for a goal kick. Everton were unlucky again in first half stoppage time when David Marshall came up with a brilliant reaction save on a deflected header by Nikica Jelavic, just barely swatting it off the line.

Marouane Fellaini committed a bit of a nasty foul on Frazier Campbell in the 55th minute, which appeared to be the catalyst that opened up the game. Unfortunately for the neutrals, a more wide-open game didn't lead to goals. Bellamy missed a couple of very good chances just before the hour mark, while Mirallas failed to make the most of a chance in the 62nd minute after Ross Barkley's initial effort was blocked.

Everton had all of the possession in the final 30 minutes, but didn't turn it into any serious chances of note.
