USA vs. Mexico: US in control as El Tri have no attacking ideas

At the hour mark the United States is in complete control over Mexico thanks to Eddie Johnson's header early in the half.

In the wake of the goal the overall feel the game didn't change. The US was still happy to sit back and counter attack while Mexico were able to work the ball into the attacking third but then quickly run out of ideas.

Interim head coach Luis Fernando Tena's first adjustment was to remove easily the best Mexican attacker on the evening, Christian Giménez, and bring on Hector Herrera.

It didn't work, at least not as the match reached the 60th minute as Mexico's lack of creativity and generally toothless attack continued to find way to not pressure the US defense.

With Panama and Honduras currently scoreless, the US would book their place in Brazil if that result holds and Mexico fails to make a comeback.
