UEFA Champions League 2013: Big wins for several teams, Juventus held by Copenhagen

David Ramos

Man U, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid all got big wins while Juventus slumped out of the gates with a draw against Copenhagen.

After a fairly quiet opening 45 minutes in all the games across Tuesday's Champions League schedule, things went a little bananas in the second halves with multiple teams scoring two or more goals to earn comfortable opening day wins.

Here's a recap of all eight matches from the opening day of this season's group stages:

Group A

Manchester United 4-2 Bayer Leverkusen

United exploded for three goals after Leverkusen had pulled even eight minutes into the second half.

Real Sociedad 0-2 Shakhtar Donetsk

La Real's Champions League campaign got off to a disappointing start with a 1-0 home loss to Shakhtar Donetsk. Despite having more of the ball and out shooting Shaktar by a large amount, La Real simply couldn't break through against the Shakhtar defense.

The visitors took the lead in the 65th minute when Darijo Srna's loss cross into the box was laid off by wonderfully by Douglas Costa with a back heel play that stopped the ball and pushed it back towards a charging Alex Teixeira who launched a shot past Claudio Bravo.

Texeria scored his second goal of the match in the 86th minute, ending any hopes for La Real to at least salvage a point.

Group B

FC Copenhagen 1-1 Juventus

Nicolai Jorgensen staked Copenhagen to an early lead and despite Fabio Quagliarella's equalizer early in the second half, the Lions were able to hold on for a surprise point.

Galatasaray 1-6 Real Madrid

Los Blancos took awhile to get going, but once Isco finally broke through in the 33rd minute, the floodgates opened as Real Madrid hammered Galatasaray.

Group C

Benfica 2-0 Anderlecht

Filip Djuricic scored three minutes into the match and Benfica never looked back as they defeated Anderlecht 2-0. Luisão doubled the lead in the 30th minute but Anderlecht never really looked likely to get back in the match.

Olympiakos 1-4 Paris Saint-Germain

After the two teams traded goals in the first half -- Olympiakos' goal coming thanks to a stunning individual effort from Vladmir Weiss -- Paris Saint Germain overwhelmed the Greek side in the second half as Thiago Motta scored twice on nearly identical headers of corner kicks. The 19-year-old defender Marquinhos, making his debut for PSG, scored on a corner kick header as well.

It could have been worse for Olympiakos, but Roberto Gago denied Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a double save on a penalty kick. It was the lone positive for the Greek club in the second half.

Group D

Bayern Munich 3-0 CSKA Moscow

First half goals from David Alaba and Mario Mandzukic helped Bayern begin their Champions League defense with a win. Arjen Robben added a third in the second half.

Viktoria Plzen 0-3 Manchester City

Plzen probably felt pretty good after reaching halftime scoreless, but things fell apart in the second half as Manchester City score three quick goals and never looked back.
