Liverpool vs. Southampton: Preview and TV schedule

Alex Livesey

Liverpool host Southampton at Anfield on Saturday, looking to defend their position at the top of the Premier League table.

Along with Merseyside rivals Everton, Liverpool are one of only two Premier League teams yet to lose a game this season. Brendan Rodgers' side have started impressively, and are sitting a point clear of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur at the top of the table after losing their 100% win record against Swansea City in their last game.

They welcome Southampton to Anfield on Saturday, with the Saints having had a mixed start to the campaign. Mauricio Pochettino's team have won only one of their four games, scoring just twice despite beefing up their attack with Pablo Osvaldo in the summer. However, they've only lost one, too, and are currently floating in a mid-table position.

They'll look to upset the odds and take points from a Liverpool side with a lengthy injury list this weekend. Philippe Coutinho is a fresh absentee with a shoulder injury, and joins Aly Cissokho, Sebastián Coates, Glen Johnson and the suspended Luis Suárez on the sidelines, in what is the last game of the Uruguayan's ban. Daniel Agger and Joe Allen are both in doubt. For Southampton, only left-back Luke Shaw is an early concern.

Liverpool Injuries and suspensions

Out: Philippe Coutinho (shoulder), Aly Cissokho (ankle), Sebastián Coates (knee), Glen Johnson (ankle), Luis Suárez (suspension). In doubt: Daniel Agger (ribs), Joe Allen (hamstring).

Southampton injuries and suspensions

Out: None. In doubt: Luke Shaw (ankle).
