Atlético is rising and other lessons from week 7

Atletico's victory over Real Madrid was a statement of intent from Diego Simeone's team that they intend to be a title contender this season in La Liga.

Atlético claim victory in El Derbi madrileño

Diego Costa's goal in the 11th minute was all Atlético Madrid needed to claim their second straight victory over their local rivals Real Madrid in El Derbi madrileño.

Courtois makes incredible save

Alvaro Morata is very good at his job. Thibaut Courtois is better.

It's been a crazy up-and-down match at the Bernabeu with both teams having plenty of chances to score, but this was Real Madrid's best yet. Perhaps it's just not their day.

Diego Costa puts Atleti up

The Madrid Derby is off to a brilliant start for Atletico Madrid, who lead at the Santiago Bernabeu in impressive fashion. Diego Costa was the scorer, finishing off this chance in the 11th minute to put his side up 1-0.

While the finish and Koke's assist were impressive, the best aspect of this goal is probably how it started. Atleti left back Felipe won the ball with an inch-perfect tackle to turn the tables on a disorganized Madrid, who had started to commit numbers forward and were out of position when they turned the ball over.

Real Madrid obviously have the talent to fight back into this game, but it'll be tough to break down Atleti if they have no incentive to take risks in attack.

Barcelona wins, Messi injured

It wasn't the most impressive performance but in the end Barcelona were able to take three points from Almeria and remain perfect on the season.

Messi tweaks hamstring, subbed off against Almeria

Lionel Messi tweaked his hamstring just minutes after putting the Blaugrana in the lead over Almeria, forcing the star striker into an early exit from the match.

El Derbi madrileño. Spanish for fun.

The first El Derbi madrileño of the season finds Atletico ahead of Real Madrid by two points in the table.

Barcelona look to keep Almeria win less

Barcelona are chasing their 12th straight league victory as they travel down the Mediterranean coast for a match against struggling Almeria.
