Considering Osasuna's awful start to the season, it's not really surprising that the club announced the firing of head coach Jose Luis Mendilibar on Tuesday.
The team's board made the unanimous decision this morning and the team announced the decision shortly thereafter at a press conference and on the club's website.
The team's president Miguel Archanco expressed regret about the decision.
"The personal and professional relationship with Mr. Mendilibar and Mr Ruiz has been exemplary. Honestly I'm sorry. I know they are things of football, they always results, but has cost me. It affects me because I have a very good relationship with Jose Luis and I think I'll have forever. "
Los Rojillos will now begin the search for a new coach though Archanco said there are already four candidates being looked at by the team and that Osasuna is commintted to finding a "a young, committed coach".
Osasuna began the season with three straight losses, including a 3-0 loss against Villarreal over the weekend.
Mendilibar had been in charge of Osasuna since 2011. The board also announced that assistant coach Alfredo Sanchez will take over on a temporary basis.
