Jason Puncheon's horrible penalty kick was horrible

Julian Finney

This might be one of the worst penalty kick attempts ever.

When Tottenham's Mousa Dembélé brought down Crystal Palace's Marouane Chamakh in the 8th minute of Saturday's match, he probably thought he'd just put his team in a 1-0 hole early in the game.

That was until Jason Puncheon stepped up to the penalty spot and launched his attempt into orbit.

Take a look.

Thanks to Fred Sports for the GIF that shall bring us so much joy watching over and over again. Prepare yourselves as well for endless GIFs featuring Puncheon's kick knocking satellites out of orbit and who knows what else. The Internet is full of creative people, I'm sure they'll come up with all sorts of comedy gold.

Now whether or not this is the worst penalty ever attempted is open for debate and there is certainly plenty of competition from past poor efforts to give Puncheon a run for his money. My personal favorite is this gem from Sergio Ramos in the 2012 UEFA Champions League semifinal.

That's a classic.

So is this miss from the 2013 Confederations Cup.

Who keeps letting poor Sergio take penalties?
