Inter Milan vs. Chievo: Final score 1-1, both sides still without a win in 2014

A draw won't do much to help either side, as both remain winless in 2014.

Inter Milan and Chievo Verona played out a 1-1 draw that suits neither side, with both goals coming within the first 15 minutes.

Walter Mazzarri named just two changes to the Inter side that went down 1-0 away to Lazio last weekend, Andrea Ranocchia and the suspended Fredy Guarín making way for Hugo Campagnaro and Mateo Kovačić. Eugenio Corini also made just the two chances to the side that played out a goalless draw with Cagliari, Luca Rigoni and Sergio Pellissier dropping out in favour of Ivan Radovanović and Alberto Paloschi.

Indeed, bringing in Paloschi proved to be an inspired move after just seven minutes, when Chievo took a shock lead. Boukary Dramé won a challenge from the colliding Inter defenders Rolando and Campagnaro and the ball fell kindly to Palochi, who lashed an unstoppable shot past Handanović from just inside the area.

An early goal is often what's needed to shock a side into life and Inter then began to dominate proceedings, as it was just four minutes before the Nerazzurri drew level. Patient build-up play down the right-hand side between Campagnaro and Ricky Álvarez resulted in Álvarez putting in a low cross for the late-arriving Yuto Nagatomo to sweep home for his fifth goal of the season.

Two minutes later and Nagatomo had the ball in the net again, again arriving late to sweep home Jonathan's cross-shot from eight yards. However, the linesman held his flag aloft -- although replays appear to show the Japanese international to be onside when the ball left Jonathan's boot.

Inter continued to dominate and really should've gone ahead in the 24th minute, with Rodrigo Palacio heading Jonathan's cross wide whilst completely unmarked at the back post. A finisher of Palacio's calibre should surely have done better.

Chievo did manage to fashion a chance before the half was out. Cyril Théréau received the ball inside the centre circle and his touch taking him away from the entirety of Inter's high defensive line. The Frenchman ran all of 40 yards pursued by the Inter backline before unleashing a shot, but Juan had managed to just get back and get a foot in the way.

In the second half, Chievo were more organised both in defence and on the counter attack. Despite Inter having most of the possession again, it was the visitors who looked more comfortable in defence and more dangerous up front, with easily the best chance of the half falling to Théréau after a counter attack. Alas, he couldn't get any real contact on Paloschi's square pass and the ball bobbled harmlessly wide.

For all they huffed and puffed, Inter just couldn't create opportunities and their lack of urgency will be of some concern to their fans. Even in the dying seconds, they struggled to create anything clear-cut. The draw suits Chievo better, but neither side will be particularly happy with just the one point.
