Udinese vs Lazio, final score 2-3: Lazio secure maiden away victory

Two goals in the last eight minutes capped a remarkable comeback for ten man Lazio, who defeated Udinese 3-2 at the Stadio Friuli.

Hernanes popped up in the final minute to hand Lazio a first away win of the season. The Brazilian was controversially dropped due to concerns over his form, but he came on to silence his critics and preserve Edy Reja's unbeaten record since his return to the helm. Udinese have lost all three of their matches in 2014 and are flirting with the relegation places.

Lazio twice came from behind despite the controversial dismissal of Ogenyi Onazi early in the second half. Their victory in Udine is their first in seven years.

Zeljko Brkic returned between the Udinese sticks, but Allan and Gabriel Silva were both suspended following their dismissals in Monday's 3-0 loss at Sampdoria.

Sergio Floccari was handed a rare starting berth in a more attacking 3-4-1-2 formation. Etrit Berisha retained the goalkeeping gloves despite Federico Marchetti returning from injury. Lazio were without injured trio Stefan Radu, Abdoulay Konko and Alvaro Gonzalez, while Cristian Ledesma and Stefano Mauri were suspended.

Lazio almost conceded an own goal after five minutes. Roberto Pereyra deceived Luis Cavanda in the box and his effort deflected off the head of Giuseppe Biava, forcing Berisha into a point blank reflex save.

Cavanda's nightmare start continued when he conceded a penalty on 8 minutes. Maicousel evaded the young Belgian and was tripped from behind. Antonio Di Natale stepped up and sent Berisha the wrong way to net his first goal since October.

Berisha made a hash out of clearing his lines and Di Natale almost pounced on the error by challenging for a header. Luckily for Berisha, play was called back for a foul by the forward.

Lazio started to dominate possession. Onazi and Senad Lulic were both denied by timely blocks by Danilo in the box. Floccari expertly brought a ball down with a back heel and volleyed over on the turn. On 34 minutes, Antonio Candreva dragged an effort wide from the edge of the box. Andre Dias then laid off for Floccari to fire weakly into Brkic's gloves.

Udinese came back to life five minutes before the break. Michael Ciani ran across the box to pick Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu's pocket and prevent a clear run on goal. Maicousel latched onto a defence splitting ball to get the better of the Lazio defence, but he stabbed wide when left one-on-one with Berisha.

Moments after the restart, Lulic blocked Di Natale's reverse pass from reaching Badu in a dangerous position. Ederson came on for Floccari to reinforce Lazio's midfield, but lost Onazi to a harsh red card. The Nigerian hacked down Pereyra on the touchline, with the foul probably warranting a yellow card at best. However, Lazio's protests were in vain.

Luis Muriel made his first appearance in two months and Hernanes came on for Ciani. Lazio's bold move paid off when they were awarded a penalty just after the hour. Maurizio Domizzi had his hands on Miroslav Klose and the German went down under Brkic, as the two challenged for the ball. Candreva stepped up against his former club and smashed his spot kick into the top corner, sending Brkic the wrong way.

Ederson curled wide of the far post, but Lazio's parity lasted just five minutes. Badu chested down a cross and hit a controlled volley past Berisha from 18 yards.

Despite being a man down, Lazio still offered an attacking threat. Ederson picked out Klose at the far post, but the veteran got the flight of the ball wrong and sent a free header wide. Brkic pushed another Ederson cross into the danger zone and watched Hernanes send a half volley wide.

Hernanes had the bit between his teeth and stung Brkic's palms from distance. The goalkeeper showed bravery to smother the ball on the follow-up. Ederson broke clear again down the left hand side. This time his cross was too close to Brkic and easily caught.

Lazio levelled in freak circumstances eight minutes from time. Krkic flew out to punch clear Lulic's deep cross and the ball hit Andrea Lazzari and trickled in.

Lazio lost Ederson to a hamstring injury late on. The Brazilian swung at a shot and collapsed in pain. Berisha smothered from Nicolas Lopez after the substitute showed hesitancy to run onto Lazzari's reverse ball. The Eagles snatched victory in the last minute. Klose and Candreva provided the assist, as Hernanes picked his spot and lashed home from inside the D.
