Mohamed Salah transfer agreed by Chelsea

FC Basel attacker Mohamed Salah is headed to London to replace Juan Mata.

Chelsea have yet to announce the sale of Juan Mata to Manchester United, but they're already spending money on his replacement before he officially departs. The club announced on Thursday that they have come to an agreement with FC Basel for the transfer of attacker Mohamed Salah. The statement was short, with minimal detail, so there's likely more to come.

Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with FC Basel for the transfer of their 21-year-old attacking midfielder Mohamed Salah.

The move is subject to the Egyptian international agreeing personal terms and completing a medical examination.

Basel played Chelsea in Champions League this season, so Jose Mourinho's had an opportunity to look at him close up. He scored at Stamford Bridge in a 2-1 win over the Blues, then scored the winner in a 1-0 victory in the return match at St. Jakob-Park. This gives the 21-year-old the interesting distinction of having done more in Chelsea matches than Juan Mata has this season.
