Lionel Messi has resumed training for Barcelona after about two months spent recovering from a left hamstring injury. The star striker injured his leg back on Nov. 10 in a 4-1 over Real Betis. Messi had suffered multiple minor muscle injuries and the decision was made to shut him down to allow a proper recovery.
Messi spent the the first month out working with team physios before returning to his native Argentina to finish his rehab. He returned to Spain on Thursday and went straight to training. He participated in a full training session on Friday but will sit out this weekend's match against Elche before returning in Barca's midweek Copa del Rey Round of 16 match against Getafe. Despite being physically ready to go, he's sticking to the schedule set by the team medical staff.
The Blaugrana went 6-2 in all competitions during Messi's absence, including losses in the league against Athletic Bilbao and a Champions League defeat against Ajax.
