Fulham have announced the signing of Danish international William Kvist on loan from VFB Stuttgart. The central midfielder, 28, wasn't getting enough playing time in the Bundesliga after he was axed from the Stuttgart lineup in November; despite a sterling reputation Kvist simply hasn't found a way back into Thomas Schneider's good books. A loan makes sense for all parties, but Fulham are the biggest beneficiaries.
The Cottagers have for too long relied on the midfield duo of Scott Parker and Steve Sidwell, both of whom work extraordinarily hard but perhaps without the thoughtfulness to ensure that the effort is aimed in the correct direction. Kvist, a talented, intelligent player in the centre, has a real chance of unseating one of that pair and solidifying a Fulham team that's in desperate need of his help.
It might not work, of course, but for Rene Muelensteen, this is a gamble worth taking.
