The Blaugrana weren't particularly sharp at times but they did more than enough, taking a four-goal lead to the second leg.

Barcelona weren't particularly sharp on Wednesday against Getafe but it didn't matter as they still rolled to a 4-0 victory. Cesc Fàbregas and Lionel Messi, playing his first minutes since November, both scored twice. The win gives Barca a solid advantage going into the second leg at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.

It didn't take long at all for Barcelona to open the scoring. After eight solid minutes of pressure it was Cesc Fábregas who put his side ahead with a header from inside the 18-yard box. Pedro Rodriguez setup the goal, making a quick run towards the end line before crossing the ball back across the Getafe box where Cesc was in space for the header. Cesc caught goalkeeper Jordi Cordina shifting right to cover the cross and directed the ball back to the left and inside the far post.

Alexis Sánchez nearly doubled the Barca lead four minutes later but was unable to get his head on Adriano's cross.

Getafe had their chances as well, including in the 31st minute when Jaime Gavilán's free kick was head on frame by defender Alexis. What should have been an equalizer was pushed away by José Manuel Pinto with an excellent save.

Barcelona finally scored their second goal of the match in the  63rd minute when Getafe right back Juan Valera was beaten by Pedro. In a desperate attempt to recover, Valera went to ground and his momentum carried him right into Pedro, knocking the winger down and earning a penalty for Barca. Fàbregas stepped up and beat Codina to make it 2-0.

Lionel Messi entered the match in the 64th minute, replacing Andrés Iniesta. It was the Argentinian striker's first minutes since leaving a match against Real Betis in early November. Messi looked fully healed and active, nearly as siting on a goal before scoring twice late.

His first goal came in the 89th minute after Martin Montoya directed the ball to Messi after bringing down Sergio Busquet's chip over the defense. Messi settled the bouncing ball and fired it past Codina. Right at the end of stoppage time Messi scored again, this time on the break sliding a shot past the Getafe goalkeeper.

The second leg will be played on Thursday, January 16th.
