AC Milan have gotten off to a hot start against Atletico Madrid in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie, but they've lost a key player to an injury. Mattia De Sciglio was forced to exit in the 26th minute after getting hurt, and was replaced by Ignazio Abate.
Abate has spent years as Milan's first choice right back, but he's been displaced by De Sciglio this season. The young fullback started on Dec. 16 against Roma and has held on to the starting right back role ever since, starting in nine consecutive Serie A games. In Champions League, Abate started four matches, while De Sciglio and Cristian Zaccardo started one each.
The injury occurred during a challenge with Atletico Madrid left back Emiliano Insúa, and while it wasn't clear exactly what was wrong, it was a lower-body injury of some sort. De Sciglio was able to walk off under his own power.
