AS Roma vs. Parma abandoned due to waterlogged pitch

Giuseppe Bellini

Playing football on a lake isn't a good idea.

AS Roma's Serie A match at home to Parma today has been abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch. They had played just short of ten minutes before referee Andrea De Marco halted proceedings, with the players not looking too keen to continue. And understandably so:

Actually playing football was pretty much impossible in the conditions, with the ball sticking to the pitch like velcro. With this game having much at stake for both sides -- Roma being in the hunt for the scudetto and Parma chasing their European dream -- it makes sense that the referee called the game off.

Roma are currently six points adrift of league leaders Juventus in the Serie A table, while Parma are a point off the final Europa League place after three consecutive victories.
