Mario Balotelli will be out for 10 days with a shoulder injury, AC Milan announced. A scan revealed an injured acromioclavicular joint and while the club gave a 10-day timeline, they did say that it is possible for him to return sooner.
Balotelli was injured in Milan's 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday in the Champions League. He left the match in the 78th minute holding his shoulder and was immediately examined by the club's medical staff.
If Balotelli is out for 10 days, he will miss Milan's March 2 match versus Juventus, as well as this weekend's clash with Sampdoria. The second leg of their Champions League tie isn't until March 11 so he is likely to return by then. With Balotelli out, Milan are likely to turn to Giampaolo Pazzini up top.
Unfortunately for Milan, Balotelli was not the only played injured against Atletico. Matti De Sciglio was caught by a bad tackle that left him with a sprained ankle and forced him to leave the match. A timeline for his return has not been announced as he is still set to undergo more tests.
