Mesut Özil injury: Midfielder out at least four weeks with hamstring strain

The Arsenal midfielder will spend at least the next four weeks on the sideline after scans showed hamstring damage.

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Özil will miss the next month after suffering a hamstring strain in the team's Champions League match against Bayern Munich on Tuesday. According to the BBC's David Ornstein, a scan of Özil's hamstring showed a "significant strain" that will keep him out for at least four weeks, including the FA Cup semifinal.

Özil's recent form has put the German under heavy criticism from both the media and Gunner fans who have been disappointed with the £42 million summer signing's performance. Özil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in September and has made 22 league appearances for the Gunners, with four goals and eight assist.

The injury leaves Arsenal without both Özil and Jack Wilshere for a tough stretch of games that includes a North London Derby against Tottenham and matches against league-leaders Chelsea and title contenders Manchester City. Arsene Wenger could get winter singing Kim Kallstrom in the mix as the Swedish midfielder has resumed training with the team.

Kallstrom has yet to play since joining the Gunners in January due to a back injury.
