Hull vs. Manchester City: Final score 0-2, red card doesn't hurt Citizens

Paul Thomas

Vincent Kompany saw red inside the first 10 minutes, but it didn't stop Manchester City from scoring twice.

There are more difficult tests ahead for Manchester City, but they've managed to keep pace in the title race with a win on Saturday, despite going down to 10 men early. Hull City were poor going forward even after Vincent Kompany's red card and fell 2-0, with David Silva contributing to both goals for the visitors.

Kompany's sending off happened in the 10th minute after Nikica Jelavic got in behind the City defense. The City defender took him down and was shown a straight red card for denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity, but the visitors surprisingly took the lead four minutes later.

Silva was the scorer, and his goal was one of the best of the season. Maynor Figueroa was late to close him down 25 yards from goal, leaving him enough time and space to hit a shot that started wide of the goal and curled inside of the near post.

Hull were fairly lethargic for the rest of the half, playing like they normally do, not like they were down a goal and up a man. Steve Bruce tried to change the game by bringing Sone Aluko on for Figueroa at halftime, but the change didn't achieve the desired results. Hull out-shot City, but never made Joe Hart do anything extremely difficult.

Edin Dzeko sealed the result for City in the 90th minute, finishing off a brilliant through ball from Silva to take away any chance Hull had to grab a point. City now sit second in the table, six points behind Chelsea with two games in hand.
