Atalanta vs Sampdoria, final score 3-0: Nerazzurri victorious in mid-table meeting

Atalanta eased to a third consecutive Serie A victory after sweeping Sampdoria aside 3-0 in Bergamo.

Carlos Carmona, Giacomo Bonaventura and German Denis got the goals which moved Stefano Colantuono's side three points clear of their beaten opponents and cemented their mid-table status.

Both teams came into this game on the back of two consecutive victories. Atalanta missed the injured Davide Brivio and Luca Cigarini replaced Daniele Baselli in midfield.

Sinisa Mihajlovic named the same eleven who netted four second half goals against Livorno last weekend. The introduction of Nenad Krsticic helped the Blucerchiati wipe out a two goal deficit, so the Serb was rewarded with a start ahead of Pedro Obiang.

Sampdoria asked the early questions. Shkodran Mustafi blocked Maximiliano Moralez in the box and Eder's unselfish play saw him try to pick out Stefano Okaka, but he couldn't find the right pass. Manolo Gabbiadini curled an effort over the bar.

Denis was in the thick of the action for the hosts. The forward recovered after catching Mustafi's studs, then failed to power through the Sampdoria defence with a solo run. El Tanque wasted a glorious chance when he headed over Cigarini's corner from five yards.

Samp were denied twice in quick succession on half an hour. Lorenzo De Silvestri saw his cross ricochet towards goal off the shoulder of Roberto Soriano. Andrea Consigli got down to stop the ball trickling in, then quickly sprung back to his feet to palm over Vasco Regini's follow-up.

Atalanta took the lead thanks to a flowing move on 36 minutes. Denis held off his marker to collect a pass and deftly flick the ball on for Carmona, who sent a low volley into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The home side doubled their lead six minutes later, albeit in controversial circumstances. Cigarini's corner was headed in by an unmarked Bonaventura, but replays showed Yohan Benalouane punch Regini in the ribs, which explained why Bonaventura was left all alone at the back post.

Sampdoria lost captain Daniele Gastaldello to injury at half time. Krsticic netted the first goal in Samp's four goal recovery last weekend, but there was to be no repeat here. His weak effort was easily held by Consigli three minutes after the restart. A defensive mistake gifted Atalanta a third goal on 55 minutes. Mustafi failed to clear Moralez's cross, allowing Denis time to pick his spot and end a spell of five games without a goal.

Denis almost netted another moments later. The striker turned his marker in the box and saw his effort strike the post with Junior Da Costa well beaten.

The woodwork denied Gabbiadini and Consigli caught a cross ahead of substitute Maxi Lopez, while at the other end, Marcelo Estigarribia sent a deflected effort over.

Gianluca Sansone summed up a miserable afternoon for Sampdoria, scuffing a shot into the stands in the closing minutes. Consigli kept out an Angelo Palombo bicycle kick and Da Costa prevented Giuseppe De Luca getting in on the scoring, turning the substitute's effort wide with his fingertips.
