The Segunda Division is a hot mess that plays with your emotions and ruins the unstable. It preys on your hopes and dreams and drives you to your deepest, darkest places.
Take Mallorca. They have to feel good about their place right now. Sure, they were in La Liga a year ago, but instead of the drop sending them into financial ruin, they sit in 10th place, just three points from the last spot in the promotion playoffs.
The problem? They are also three points from relegation.
The same is true of Lugo, who are level on 40 points with Mallorca. Even Ponferradina, who are in 19th and set for relegation, are just one point out of 14th place, where five teams find themselves level on 38 points.
Think Murcia feels good about sixth place and the promotion playoff? Try asking them after telling they are six points from the drop. Then remind them they are just eight points from first place.
Have a positive goal difference? You're still getting relegated, AD Alcorcon.
No normal human being could handle such turmoil. Just shut the league down and spare people's feelings.
