It has been almost 20 years to the day since Nike's soccer division burst onto the scene with their Tiempo boot at the 1994 World Cup, in Pasadena's Rose Bowl in California. Nearly two decades on, the company is a giant in the world of football, with a number of the globe's greatest athletes and most highly-rated prospects wearing their gear on the pitch. While that might be good enough for some, it doesn't appear to be good enough for Nike, who are taking their "Risk Everything" campaign outside of the stadiums and into everyday life.
The company is celebrating the anniversary with the launch of a new lifestyle collection that they have dubbed "Nike FC." It is there to, as Nike put it in an official release, "honor the all-or-nothing approach of these athletes" like Ronaldo and Luis Figo with "not just a collection but also a badge of honor representing passion, talent, irreverence and most of all the willingness to put it all on the line." The looks combine past and present by drafting in players like Neymar, Jack Wilshere, and Dani Osvaldo, among others, to show off the new looks.
Among the new pieces are a black-and-gold N98 track jacket, a couple of pairs of Tiempo 94 sneakers (which, from personal experience, are wonderful in every way), and t-shirts emblazoned with metallic gold details on the front and back that were inspired by Brazil's 1994 World Cup-winning campaign. The collection dropped on Nike's website earlier this week.
