Just twelve minutes into Tuesday night's draw with Atlético Madrid, Gerard Pique went into an aerial challenge with Diego Costa and fell awkwardly. Marc Bartra came on in his place, and Barcelona played out a 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou.
Turns out that, when falling on his side, the 27-year-old fractured his right hip. He's set to miss four weeks, including the return fixture at Atleti and -- should Barcelona progress -- the first leg of the Champion's League semifinal.
Pique will also miss the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid, coming up on April 16, as well as up to four league matches.
Fortunately for Barcelona (who are currently second, one point behind Atlético Madrid and two above Real Madrid) the La Liga fixtures don't appear all that taxing. First up is bottom side Real Betis, followed by a visit to Granada, hosting Villarreal and a trip to Getafe. With the exception of Villarreal, who look set for Europe next season, these games should be easy points for Barca even without their best defender.
