Manchester City sit third heading into the weekend, but with two games in hand on both league leaders Liverpool and third-placed Chelsea, the Premier League standings are deceptive. Should City win both of their games in hand, they'd move at least a couple of points clear at the top. However, Southampton will look to throw a spanner in the works with their visit to the Etihad in Saturday's early kickoff.
Mauricio Pochettino's side have been consistently inconsistent so far this season, and are currently down in eighth place with pretty much nothing to play for over the final few games of the campaign. However, their 4-0 win over Newcastle United last time out serves as a warning against complacency for the Citizens, who were held to a draw in the reverse fixture at St. Mary's.
For this match, the hosts will certainly still be without young defender Matija Nastasić, while Micah Richards and Sergio Agüero are both in doubt. Southampton are expected to be missing Nathaniel Clyne, Kelvin Davies and Maya Yoshida through injury, though midfielder Victor Wanyama could return.
