We're just under an hour away from the Champions League final, contested for the first time between two clubs from the same city. Real Madrid need to win the trophy to save a fairly disappointing season and become the first club in Europe to win the European Cup 10 times, while Atlético Madrid are after their first.
This will be the fifth meeting of the season between the two teams. Real Madrid won twice in Copa del Rey, but Atléti recorded one win and one draw in La Liga, helping them to win the title.
Both teams had to deal with numerous injury issues in the lead-up to the final. Xabi Alonso is suspended for Real Madrid, while Pepe wasn't quite able to get fit to start the match. Karim Benzema, however, will play up top. There were some slight doubts over the fitness of Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, but they were always expected to start the match.
Atléti have been waiting on the fitness of Diego Costa and Arda Turan, who are both able to play, though Arda will start the game on the bench. It's quite possible that the four injured players might not have taken the pitch if this was a regular match, but they're making themselves fight through any problems to get through a European Cup final. Spain, France and Portugal's managers won't be too pleased, but they'll probably understand.
