England vs. Peru: Final score 3-0, Three Lions cruise at Wembley

Daniel Sturridge, Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka fired the Three Lions to an easy win.

England started their World Cup preparations with an easy 3-0 win over an overmatched Peru at Wembley. Daniel Sturridge got the scoring started, then Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka tallied on corner kicks to wrap up a simple evening in London.

Roy Hodgson's squad wasn't especially good as they struggled to create from open play at times and their backline wasn't rock solid, but Peru was hardly the team to make them pay for their flaws. England still kept the ball without much mercy and had no issue cleaning up at the back to mask up any mistakes prior.

Sturridge was the only made consistently threatening the Peru defense in the first half and nearly scored early on, but his shot flashed just wide of the post. It didn't matter much, though, because in the 32nd minute Sturridge took a throw in, brought it across to his favored left foot and hit a tremendous curling shot from 20 yards into the top corner. It was a beautiful goal and with it, England led 1-0.

The second half was better from England as they created a little more and while they couldn't find the net from open play, they were deadly on set pieces. First, Gary Cahill skied to meet a corner kick and headed home to double the Three Lions' lead. Then, Raul Fernandez failed to claim a corner kick as he was challenged, allowing the ball to drop for Phil Jagielka to knock home easily. Two corner kicks, two central defenders finding the net and England were 3-0 clear.

Peru didn't do much to challenge England, giving them a nice warm-up as they begin their World Cup preparations. Next up for Hodson's team is a trip to the United States, where they will play Ecuador and Honduras in Miami, Fla., before heading to Brazil for the World Cup.
