Sunderland vs. West Bromwich Albion: Preview, TV schedule and how to watch online

Ross Kinnaird

Strugglers Sunderland and West Brom meet at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday, with both sides yet to guarantee Premier League safety.

Sunderland are on the brink of doing the impossible. They looked dead and buried sat bottom of the league just a few weeks ago, but three wins in a row have seen them jump up into 17th place, two points clear of the relegation zone. A point at home to West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday would all but guarantee their survival, given their goal difference is a whole 13 better than Norwich City's below them.

West Brom head into the game a point and a place above Sunderland. They would mathematically guarantee their safety with just a draw, though their goal difference is 19 better than Norwich's. Even a defeat wouldn't put them at any serious risk, safe for one of the most dramatic final day collapses of all time.

Sunderland will still be without goalkeeper Keiren Westwood with his long-term shoulder injury, while Steven Fletcher and Ki Sung-Yueng are both sidelined too. However, defender Carlos Cuéllar could return from a hamstring problem in time to play. The Baggies are without Zoltán Gera and Liam Ridgewell, with Thievy, Steven Reid and Billy Jones facing late fitness tests.

Sunderland injuries and suspensions
